Do you have a signature style?

I was recently about my 'signature look' and this made me reflect on what this actually means. Everyone's tastes grow and mature over the course of decades. I can confirm that the looks I tested throughout my university days would not be found in my closet today but does that mean that I haven't carried a signature look or "uniform" throughout the years? What is a signature look? Is it something we create early in our fashion lives or something that takes decades to mature?

When I think about the essence of one's style, I think about the outfit people picture you wearing when they think of you - it's your uniform of sorts. When I think of Jackie O or Audrey Hepburn, an instant image of what they would wear pops into my mind. How did these style icons create this razor-sharp image?

Reflecting on my own personal fashion journey, I began to recognize that over the course of the past decade or so I had been finding and refining my own personal look without even knowing it. The cultivation of one's signature look requires a consideration amount of self-awareness and self-knowledge - knowing who you are, what you like and what suits you. Well isn't that what your 30's are all about???? The discovery of your authenticity is the first step on your journey to the discovery of your signature look.

What I also came to realize was that having a signature look or strong sense of personal style didn't mean that I had to wear the exact same outfit over and over again. True you could stick with a few key pieces that were the anchor of your look but there is so much that you could play with that can provide sufficient variation of looks and keep things fresh and exciting. I also discovered that my signature look didn't need to be too bold, over-the-top or make me into a cartoon caricature. It could equally be understated, casual and minimalistic.

So where am I on the journey of honing my personal style? Have I curated my official 'look'? Nope, but I'm loving the process of self-discovery into my authentic self and with that comes a lot of fun fashion adventures.
